Meet Sam Biddle..
I was drawn to the nail profession because of my love for nail art, I would gaze at the images of nails in the magazines and pour over the articles and steps hungry to learn more. Now, 20 years later, I have owned my own salon, a nail academy, I have entered and won numerous competitions and I am now a judge of national and international nail competitions. I hold seminars for 200+ nail professionals, run nail art workshops and presentations for my own and other brands in over 30 different countries.
I love to share my knowledge and experiences with others in the industry; I provide nail professionals worldwide with inspiration & innovation as well as a unique nail art product range and have become renowned for art, design, fantasy application and education. This was something I never thought would happen when I set off to attend my silk and fibreglass nail application course with Star Nails in 1999!
I have developed a unique style to teaching, one that can really help nail techs realise their own creative potential. And I am now developing an extensive digital education system and building a reputation of providing detailed and in-depth learning, not just in nails, but the business of nails too.
Having featured on eight front covers and published over 100 (to date) films and video tutorials, I enjoy working with the media and now combine writing for various national and international magazines with my work in education, contributing tutorials and inspirational content, along with a monthly column for well-known nail magazine ‘Scratch‘. I constantly remind myself, that I was once the one learning what I could from magazines when I started out, and I feel it is an honour to share what I have learnt over the years.
It wasn’t always plain sailing!
I began my journey in 2000 as a mobile technician and soon realised that in order to progress I would need a base, so I rented salon space for two years before taking the giant step of opening my own salon in Gillingham, Dorset with my husband John in 2002. At ‘Outside In Nail & Body Shop’ we offered a wide range of treatments and had an immediate success on our hands.
But just 4 months later my world crashed down around me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. We had invested so much into our future we couldn’t let it fail so I trained John in the art of nails before I went for treatment. Looking back now I realise it took me a long time to recover; I came out of hospital and went back to work sooner that I should have. For me at the time the cancer and other complications I had were physical issues, and I ignored the emotional and mental toll on my health. I continued to run the salon for another 4 years until 2006, when I sold it and took some time out. Taking this time made me realise that it is education that really gets me excited, working with nail professionals worldwide and seeing their individual ‘lightbulb’ moments is what inspires me.
I came back after a year’s break and started Be Inspired, which has led me to this point here.
You can read more of my story at the Be Creative website – about how I have developed Be Inspired and joined forces to create Jealous Cow Ltd and the unique Be Creative range of nail art products.
Meanwhile I continue to strive to improve education within this industry and share the tips, trick and traditions I have learnt over the years, with other professionals. Winning an ‘Industry Innovator’ award with Jealous Cow Ltd, and being nominated for ‘Services to the Nail Industry’ and ‘Nail Professional of the Year’ three years in a row, I have been able to establish a reputation for bringing something new, fun and fresh to today’s industry which inspires techs globally to Be Creative.
