When Life Gives you Lemons… Squeeze ’em
You ever made a plan, spent weeks and months making sure each detail is nailed down, only to have every carefully laid part of the plan fall apart?
It’s safe to say that anyone who made plans in 2020 knows exactly how that feels. I know so many people who have had to change important life plans; my son had to completely reimagine his wedding, Ethan had to do the same and I’ve spoken to members who had to rethink birthdays, anniversaries and other occasions.
The issue I faced… I had to work out how I was going to do a 3 day, in-person event with 40 people, at a time when you’re not allowed even 6 people in your house!
Sometimes when life gives you lemons, you need to squeeze those fuckers and add a bunch of sugar. Of course, we can all sit and cry over spilt milk: missed experiences and what could have been. But sometimes, there is something far sweeter on the horizon if you just see past the bowl of lemons.
That is what happened with the Inspired Event, a weekend I have hosted for the past 4 years that always brought me stress yet endless amounts of memories and fun. 2020 was going to be the last one, the final event SPECTACULAR. This one was meant to be special for The Inspired Membership, I wanted to offer an escape for a weekend with like-minded people and a place to hone some nails art skills. But obviously, we were thrown a curveball with the lockdowns that never ended.
I finally admitted defeat, I threw my hands up and sobbed for a minute or two. I was gutted at what I had lost. But then, I figured something out… surely I was not the only one who had been affected in this way. So, a couple of calls later and we were back in business! This is the thing with creative thinking and a brain that never stops; It never admits defeat for too long.
I decided to ask a few of my friends what changes have they made in their careers to overcome obstacles. Here’s what they had to say:
“I would probably say that one of the main changes I have made over the years would be to concentrate on myself and my goals and to believe in my own abilities. To not compare myself to others as it manifests insecurities, I spent many years investing too much energy looking at what others were doing instead of focusing on my own journey. I love this quote.”
‘Do not underestimate yourself by comparing yourself to others. It’s our differences that make us unique and beautiful.
“I think my biggest change was shrinking back my clients. I was doing 12 hour days 6 days a week and it was great for the salon, but dreadful for me. It affected my health and wellbeing, meaning that during the little time I was able to spend with the family I was drained and not much fun. I made the decision to close my large salon and concentrate on me, and although I still work long hours, I’m able to give more to what I’m doing instead of half Mel! I can see clearer and I only have to worry about what I’m doing”.
After hearing about obstacles my friends and colleagues had faced, it helped me realise that just because I had carefully laid plans for my expectations, there was no guarantee it would happen. So instead of throwing away all that I worked for, I decided to switch paths. I took a look at this amazing event I had spent a year organising and asked myself: What can I no longer do, what can I do if I tweak things a little & what stays the same?
After looking at the event with this new way of thinking, I realized I could still deliver Kick ass nail knowledge and still have a fun and fantastic weekend. This time just a little different than normal… This is where I tell you about the online Be Inspired Event we will be hosting on March 3 in lieu of our in-person event which was supposed to happen in March LAST YEAR. I have also made the decision to have one last in-person event in 2022… because I wanna go out in style!
I have the tools, and equipment to go live, host a Talk show with Mel and film courses, EVERY WEEK. Why not combine all this knowledge together and hold a “live event’.
So I am inviting you to spend the weekend with me and my special guests; Melanie Lewendon, my co-host of the Mel & Sam Show, and Rebecca Issac, our 30 Nails in 30 Days educator!
Moving online we have a broadcasting suite filled with a bunch of cool tools to make this a great weekend of learning, gossip and laughs!
